OUR INTERNSHIP PHILOSOPHY
When you enter an
here at Absolute Scuba Bali, we encourage you to work toward becoming a highly qualified
professional. From the beginning to the end, you will be in the Instructor's manual, learning the Standards and Procedures, and performance requirements of each
you take. You will be accepted as a staff member in training, and at your request, be exposed to all facets of
operations. We will gladly teach you regulator repair, compressor operations, boat handling and other facets of the dive operation that are not formal parts of the course.
Want special seminars such as "Teaching Physics" (your course director has a PhD in engineering and experience in teaching grades 9-12 and university), just ask. Want to learn how to make gaskets for a compressor that has just blown one? We can do it. Don't have any idea what a durometer is? We do and will let you know. It's important to you as a scuba diver, but very few divers, including instructors, have any idea what is and how it applies.
At the end of the day, we hope that you will strive to learn much more that what is required by the training standards. Expanding your knowledge and skill base will make you a more valuable member of any dive operation for which you work. The more jobs that you can do well, the better your chances of being employed at dive centers & operations around the world. Remember, we're here to support your achievements.
Nice to know
Current Indonesian immigration regulations allow most visitors a 1 month visa on arrival. If you want to stay with us longer than that, we can send you appropriate documentation that you can use to obtain a cultural visa that is good for up to 6 months.
We can help you find very affordable housing for your stay here. In times past, we provided housing and priced the internships accordingly. Experience showed us, however, that most interns would rather obtain their own accommodations. Want rowdy, stay in Kuta. Want a little more solitude, try Sanur. In either case, we can show you housing appropriate to your requirements.
Food here is about as inexpensive as you are likely to find. For less than us$2, you can have a complete meal, if you are willing to try the Indonesian fare.
Extended stays in a tropical climate is likely to expose you to fungi, bacteria, and other unpleasant things. Bali has a good selection of medicines appropriate to this climate and at reasonble prices. We do recommend that you have a good health insurance policy in effect while you are here, as stays in western style medical centers can be pricey.
Bali has been able to preserve its native culture and is culturally a delight. Temple ceremonies, native dances, foods, volcanos, and excellent diving are all part of your dive internship. Let us and our Balinese friends help you feel like you have found your home.
And one last thing; your internship at Absolute Scuba will be overseen by a
PADI Course Director
, the highest instructor rating in recreational diving.
