PADI NIGHT DIVER AT BALI

We don't mean to brag or anything(well, maybe we do), but we have what we consider a world class night dive. It actually takes place before sunrise so you need to get up early. Divers enter the waters at Tulamben about 45 minutes before sunrise, and then watch the early morning light from the bridge of the USS Liberty. You will watch the ship come out of the darkness like a picture developing.

A large school of large bump head parrot fish start their day here and you can watch them slowly wake up, rub themselves in the sand and then move off for a day of feeding on the reef. Then you surface, watch the sun come above the horizon, see the volcano in shades of red, then it's back to the resort for coffee and breakfast. What a way to start another day of diving in Bali.

What do I need to start?

• PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization)
• Minimum age: 12 years old

What will I do?

You'll learn night dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and potential problems. You'll also learn how to control your buoyancy, navigate and communicate at night. Since many of the plants and animals you'll see are different, you'll also get an introduction to nocturnal aquatic life. On top of all that, you'll get to dive the USS Liberty at sunrise and see a school of bump head parrot fish as they start their day. This is a rare treat!

How long will it take?

• Recommended Course Hours: 12
• Minimum Open Water Training: three night dives over one or two days

• PADI Night Dive Manual, video, lights, compass, lines

Where can I go from here?

Your PADI Adventures In Diving, PADI Night Adventure Dive may count towards the PADI Night Diver Specialty course at instructor discretion.
